Faculty members across the academy regularly use rubrics for assessing a variety of student work. Such assessments and rubrics are inherently based on the pedagogy employed by the educators. Additionally, these rubrics reflect not only course content but also the discipline in which they are used. In line with the practice of adopting rubrics to pedagogy, we developed various rubrics for reflection discussions and reflective-writing assignments in several business education courses. To assist with the process of creating rubrics for assessing reflections in a robust and helpful way, we developed a generalized rubric based on the Ignatian Pedagogy Paradigm (IPP). By design, this IPP rubric can be tailored to education across disciplines, not only in business courses. In this paper, we introduce the generalized rubric and describe our experiences with using it in several courses.
