How Can We Animate The Inspirational Paradigm In Our Classrooms? (Answer: Innovation! Creating an Incubator to Unleash Faculty Talent)
Informed by Laudato Si’, An Inspirational Paradigm for Jesuit Business Education recognizes business as a noble vocation. The ideas embodied in the paradigm are the culmination of several years of collaboration led by Fr. Joseph Christie, SJ, Secretary of Higher Education for the Society of Jesus, Fr. Michael Garanzini, SJ, President of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, and a task force of engaged deans and faculty from Jesuit universities around the globe. The Paradigm articulates an ambitious and profoundly important educational and formative agenda: the centrality of ethics, the common good, and the dignity and flourishing of the individual. While the Paradigm embraces a market economy, it deftly repositions economic forces as a potent channel to help give rise to a just social order. The implication for business schools means a bold departure from a traditional curriculum’s primary emphasis on skills and concepts associated with a goal of profit maximization.
