On June 4, 2022, the Tampa Bay Rays hosted the Chicago White Sox in their 16th “Pride Night.” Like almost every other team in Major League Baseball (MLB), the Rays had a game during June – Pride Month – to celebrate their LGBTQ+ fans. Tropicana Field, the Rays’ home stadium, was decked out with rainbow flags and Rays players wore caps with the rainbow-striped “TB” and rainbow starburst patches on their sleeve. However, many fans did not notice that five of the team’s relief pitchers opted not to wear the pride-themed caps or patches until it was reported by local and national media outlets.
