Pfizer Inc, was an american multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporation and Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc. (GBT) was a small biotechnology firm. On August 8, 2022, the CEOs of the 2 companies decided to merge their two firms after months of discussion and the process of due diligence. GBT management was concerned about dilution of its identity and Pfizer management was concerned about dilution of its stock. The CEO of GBT wondered whether the strategic alliance would be successful in establishing a strong product line and to alleviate concerns for GBT employees that trusted him and were nervous about the deal. Students are asked to use pertinent strategic management and decision-making tools and methods to analyze various forms of strategic alliances and their impact on the product strategy.
