This critical incident described the conflict that developed when an employee turned to social media to discuss workplace issues. Rhonda was dissatisfied with the three finalists who were announced to fill a top-level administration position at a midwestern liberal arts university, Lakeside University. Rhonda voiced her frustrations on Facebook, where she had over 900 friends. Members of the search committee, administration officials, and community members were all among those who saw the post. Josh, Rhonda’s colleague and member of the search committee, was upset by the post. Anthony, the human resource director was notified of the situation that both employees were upset. This critical incident draws attention to the impact of social media in the workplace. It also discussed the role of stakeholders within an organization and how to handle conflict among employees.
