Royal Family Pains

This description-based critical incident focuses on the onboarding lessons associated with the British royal family and their business that can be applied to anyone entering a family that concurrently has a family-owned company. The CI is designed to encourage learners to more intentionally explore organizational fit issues during the onboarding phase of entering an organization by demonstrating the parallels between the due diligence that should be exercised when entering a family, especially one that may concurrently be engaged in owning a business
The family business or human resources-related learning objectives for this CI include:

2. Illustrating strategies individuals, families, or organizations can use to effectively integrate newcomers into pre-existing systems (Bloom taxonomy level 4).
3. Demonstrating specific due diligence steps individuals need to consider as part of determining appropriate entrance and adjustment strategies as they enter professional or personal relationships (Bloom taxonomy level 4).
