EMBRYO IDEA - On May 25, 2023, The New York Times headlined that Target became the latest company
to fall victim to LGBTQIA+ backlash from customers. Customers began retaliating against the
brand by posting videos on social media like Tik Tok, calling for the public to boycott Target. A
Target shopper posted a video on Tik Tok about a greeting card that read ‘ So Glad You Came
Out’ and a onesie that read ‘¡Bien Proud!’ and commented: “If that doesn’t give you a reason to
boycott Target, I don’t know what does”. Target responded by cutting ties with a Pride line in
London and removing some items from their Pride collection and moving Pride displays to the
back of stores in the U.S., as employee safety was threatened (Meryersohn, 2023).
