The Board of Directors of the Western Slope Hope’s Fountain (HPWS), a not-for-profit organization advocating for children (and their parents) with intellectual and developmental disabilities, was challenged with hiring their first child advocate. As a new local chapter of the national organization, the board was determined to succeed in building a strong relationship between HPWS and the local schools. This position needed to be filled by an individual with self-direction, knowledge in negotiations, and keen awareness of sensitive family situations. Furthermore, this new hire would have to not only work directly with children, their families, and the local schools, but also with the board president. A total of 15 applications were accepted, with 2 significantly standing out. The Board of Directors was very happy with the candidates but was having a challenging time deciding which person to choose to fill this special role.
