Carol Perry, owner of Perry Pottery, is struggling with an expansion decision under the uncertainty of the economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the new guidelines, Carol can only teach two students in her current studio at a time. She is considering expanding her studio, able to fit six students under COVID-19 rules and eight students after the pandemic. The new studio will also allow for better ventilation and, during Vermont winters, allow students to stay inside throughout the whole session. Craft sales have slightly decreased nationally, and COVID-19 has negatively impacted Vermont artisans as customers look for DIY, at-home projects. Carol needs to decide to expand her studio or to return to her family’s manufacturing business.
