Examines global meat consumption and the U.S. meat industry for the last 60 years. The environmental factors impacting chicken consumption are examined as well as the innovations in breeding, mass production, contract farming, vertical integration and marketing that have made chicken more plentiful and affordable. U.S. Rotisserie chicken consumption is examined as well as Costco's $4.99 rotisserie chicken using loss leader pricing. Costco's vertical integration of their chicken supply is examined as well as the negative reaction generated as Costco moved into agricultural farming.
