The Practicum in International Development is a service-learning course developed and offered at Creighton University. The semester-long class is highlighted by travel to the Dominican Republic over fall break and includes community-engaged opportunities for the students enrolled in the course. In this manuscript, we provide an overview of the course, a description of our engagement with our community partners, present the frameworks that have guided its development, and provide practical examples of how the course addresses the tenets of the frameworks. We conclude by discussing student outcomes of the class, lessons learned from our experiences, and provide possible opportunities for measuring impact with our community partners.
