The Continental Oil and Gas Association represents a variety of organizations along the oil and gas supply chain. In 2022, Dan Williamson was hired as the chief executive officer and charged with improving COGA’s corporate culture and its external relationships with stakeholders in the community of New Mexico. Williamson worked with consultants to build internal and external trust and internal cohesion, professionalism, and accountability. They worked with the board on ways to build trust internally, yet still needed to reach out to the public to enhance their reputation and consumer sentiment during a time of volatility in the oil and gas industry. Students who successfully complete this case will be able to explain the importance of servant leadership to building trust, accountability, transparency, and professionalism among stakeholders; develop a stakeholder analysis; identify ways to shape consumer sentiment in an industry; and develop ways to leverage corporate social responsibility.
